It's just one exciting thing after another
I'm going to stop moaning about not having blog fodder when life is calm, because inevitably things change.
Today G. and I were due to go meet the lambs we are adding to the flock. We drove out, visited the lambs, and then the shepherd and I started having a rather 'who's on first's conversation where we both thought the other wasn't making a whole lot of sense. It turns out she thought we were picking up the lambs and not just visiting. If they were ready to go, and we were set at home... we all looked at the back of the van where I had a large blue tarp kicking around. They would easily fit and would be safe and we wouldn't have to make the long drive later, so
Meet Timothy (on the left) and Caspian (on the right.) They are 2.5 months old and are so sweet. We weren't sure what Fred and Clark would think, but things went well.
Things went well until G. went to fill up a bucket of water at the hydrant. A hydrant which did not pour forth water. Weird, but we'd deal with it later and suggested the hydrant in the barn. No water. Also no water by the other stock tank or by the shed. Starting to panic, I had D. check the hydrants around the house. No water. I went inside and at first thought we had water, but quickly realized that what was coming out of the faucets was just what was left in the pipes.
Truly starting to panic, I asked D. to head to the crawl space to see if there were any burst pipes. No burst pipes, but he did discover our well pump has an error code. Panic was downgraded because an error with the well pump seemed more manageable than digging a well.
We called the water service we use and unbelievably there was a live person answering the phone at 7:00 at night. They were willing to send someone out right then, but the after hours fee was the same cost as that new alternator we bought a couple of weeks ago. We decided we could wait until morning when the call would be free. We can fill animal water buckets at our neighbors and we decided we could manage until morning.
This is why we are now having a restaurant meal for dinner, where we will be sure to make use of their bathroom facilities before we leave. But I'm also feeling vindicated because I have canned water in the pantry which I had canned whenever I had room in the pressure canner. I have taken quite a bit of mocking for my canned water. But not only will we be able to brush teeth before bed, but we will be able to make coffee in the morning.
