Fiber Monday - not doing the Tour de Fleece or anything else, really

I don't really have much to share with you, last week being kind of taken over with buying and bringing home a new horse. That's one reason, but here is the other.

This is the table in my studio. And from the other side.

I have now reached a point where until I get this sorted out, I absolutely cannot work in there.

Some of it is projects (yes, plural, and that is part of the problem), some of it is unrelated, non-crafting items that need to just be put away, and some of it is new crafting items that need a home.

Right, about that. A spinning/knitting store near me is closing its doors after many years. I'm kind of sad about it because I've found really interesting spinning fiber there. There is a 50% off everything sale until everything is gone. That's a mark down to take advantage of even if I currently don't really need anything. It is definitely a stock up price.

(We won't visit the fact that spinning fiber is not really something I need to stock up on because I probably have years' worth of projects already. It still all fits in my studio.)

So other than shop, I did do one fiber related project this past week.

This is the last of my dye project of mixing grey and turquoise. This is 25% grey and 75% turquoise. Once it is put away and labelled properly I'll be able to show the four different combinations.

On to what I didn't do. I didn't wash any raw fleece even though I still have one pound of Shetland, 7 pounds of Clun Forest, and 5 pounds of Merino to get to before winter. This is because I realized that I was out of the scouring agent I like to use. More will arrive later this week.

I also didn't do any spinning. I don't think this is entirely because of the state of my studio. I think it is more because every other spinner in the country has been spinning yards and yards of yarn. You see, every July, during the Tour de France the spinning world has the Tour de Fleece. The idea is that everyday the bikes are racing, spinners will be spinning. It's mainly to encourage spinners to develop a practice of spinning every day. Some people set goals and form teams, and some, though not as many, do a whole marathon spinning thing. And I can feel my reactionary nature kick in. If everyone is doing it, then it is precisely the thing I have no interest in doing. This has also been a challenge with book groups and assigned reading. If something is my idea, great! However, if it is something that is assigned and becomes a 'have to', then it's a toss up as to whether I actually do it or not. Nothing kills my interest in something like making that something a requirement. (You can begin to see why a PhD never happened. I would start to think about all those requirements and...  I just couldn't bring myself to seriously consider it.)

After all that, I have found time at the loom the past couple of days and am halfway through the napkins I'm weaving. I might even be at a point where I need to think about ordering the yarn I need for my next project.
