A whole blog post about what I am not reading

I'm going to give you a little pro-tip. If you go to bed too late a couple of nights in a row because you are trying to finish a library book that is becoming increasingly overdue at the library, you will not have a whole lot of energy during the day as a result. Shocking, I know. I finished the book yesterday, got to bed at a much more reasonable time, and (surprisingly) had quite a bit more energy than the two days previous. I'm 56 and still find this little bit of information somewhat surprising. Well, if not surprising, then inconvenient. Evenings are my designated reading time after all.

I am now between fiction books again at the moment, so getting to bed at a decent hour should be fairly easy. I have had a horrible time this year finding fiction that I feel like reading. I have plenty of books on my list that would probably be interesting, but they just don't strike my fancy at this moment. I started Wolf Hall by Hillary Mantel a while bit, read the first 80 pages or so, had another book appear that I wanted to read more, so set Wolf Hall aside. Then, after her death in September I heard an interview with her which was being rebroadcast and I thought I should pick the book back up again. Obviously since this is now mid-November, I did not rush to do this. 

But yet the book sits there on my stack next to the bed and I'm starting to feel a bit annoyed by seeing it there. I don't want to give up on it, so I think I'm just going to have to read it. I actually enjoyed the bit I've already read, so that's not a bad thing. But I've let the book sit there with a bookmark for about half a year and I'm afraid that it is going to be a bit of a slog to remember exactly what was going on and who all the people are (and there are a lot of people, it is the kind of book which needs family trees in the front as well a lists of characters). If I can get over this, then I can move ahead. 

And if I enjoy it as much as I think I eventually will, there will probably be several more late nights in my future as I finish it.

It's Sew, Mama, Sew Giveaway time again.  I love bias tape.  It is so useful and so easy to use... finishing edges ... finishing seams ...  And while the pre-packaged stuff has it's place and I use it often, I really like to have patterned bias tape as well.  Enter one of my favorite little tools: the bias tape maker.  This one make 3/4 inch bias tape and I will be giving one away at the end of this post.  But first, I thought some of you might like to see what it does if you've never used one before. I don't have a rotary cutter, nice cutting mats, or even a proper cutting table (I cut-out things on my floor), so if I can do this, so can you.  Here is my admittedly quirky method. Apple picking in the rain

Today was our planned day to go and pick apples.  It was raining off and on, but when it comes to fruit, we don't let a little water get in our way so off we went.  We met our friends and enjoyed their company and picked a lot of apples (3 1/2 bushels).  We also ate quite a few. G.  L. K.  (with an apple nearly as big as his head) P8, TM and L. Now, I don't know about you, but even picking 7 bags of apples does not take us very long.  It's a shame to drive so far only to turn around and go home, so we packed lunches, headed to a park, and enjoyed the now sunny weather. TM and P8 A good day all around.  Of course now I have to do something with all these apples...

Kenzie on the beach

We have made it back home. I am feeling a little more balanced, but it was hard saying goodbye to a house we've created such meaningful memories in for the past 34 years.
