All the baked goods

Our new oven arrived at the store over the weekend and earlier in the day J. got it installed. J. has had a lot of experience installing appliances over the past few years and is now pretty darn good at it. This installation went remarkably smoothly and did not require an extra trip to the hardware store. This is a definite step up from what we had before. It is also the best range we've had in the five years we've lived in this house. That also means it is the fifth range we've had while living in this house. It sounds insane to say we have gone through a range a year, but it's true. The warranty gave us the purchase price of the range which died (and was only a year old) which meant that with the sale going on we could purchase a much better range for a reasonable amount of money. Want to see?

What I like about it:
  • Our very large frying pan fits inside the oven which was not the case for our last one.
  • There are five burners and those burners are slightly farther apart.
  • There is a warming drawer which means the broiler is inside the oven.
  • There are more BTU's in each burner and I hope the low flame is lower (I haven't experimented with that yet.)
  • There were three oven racks included (our last range had just two) and they are heavy duty. I will be able to put my large dutch oven on the rack without fear that the rack will give way.
  • It has a self-clean cycle.
There has been much rejoicing with the appearance of a working oven. This morning G. made gingersnaps.

This afternoon Y. made bread. (And I won't have to buy bread at the store next week!)

And for dinner we made a recipe which required baking. (It was Marry Me Chicken by Delish, which, if you haven't made it, you should because it is incredibly good.)

L. is also extremely happy even though she is not one of my usual bakers. This is because she can now bake her clay creations so she can go back to using her creative genius (her term) in her messy work area in the dormer of her room. And because L. is happy about that it is not stretching things too much to say that the entire family is happy, too.

Congrats! But beware of the self-cleaning function! The first time I used it, I had to have a switch replaced. The 2nd time I used it (a few years later - after forgetting the first time), I killed the oven. Would have needed computer board replaced. I will try to remember to never use that feature again! One repair person suggested just heating oven to 450 (or 500??) for an extended time. Not as hot as self-cleaning function.
