Friday bullets - June 18, 2021

J. took a few days off this week, so I am not quite sure what day it is. Yesterday felt a bit like Friday, today felt a bit like Saturday, I have no idea what tomorrow is going to feel like.
  • First, you have got to see the ridiculous fly mask we got for Vienna. She's hard to buy for because she has a little tiny face, but not quite so tiny as a mini. Even if you get her pony sized items, they're still a little big.

Because her little ears don't even come close to filling up the ear space, the ears on the mask just flop about as she walks.
  • I loved the few days this week where it was in the seventies with low humidity. That was far better than this ninety and humid business we had today. But I am still incredibly thankful it is not the 119 that you in Phoenix are having! I've done that and really don't feel the need to do it again.
  • We now have a bridle for Vienna, so girls spent some time riding her this morning, including Y. and R. This is P. leading and Y. riding. (She is still working on her balance when mounted and isn't quite yet ready to deal with reins.
  • I am just about finished with the book, Unorthodox by Deborah Feldman. I am finding it deeply disturbing, perhaps even more so than how I felt when I read Educated.
  • L. received a fairly large amount of clay for her birthday and has been creating many, many things. She will make custom orders if you are willing to purchase the item for $1.00.
  • D. had his two day college orientation over the past two days over Zoom. It wasn't quite the same as being there in person, but logistically it was a lot easier. He is now all registered for his fall classes.
  • Earlier this week we got "the call" from TM who finally finished with reception and is now busy in basic training. For any non-military parents, the call is when your child calls to inform you that they are at basic training, what their unit is, that you will be receiving more information, and then they hang up. He was detained at reception because his bunk mate came down with Covid, so TM had to be quarantined. The plus side is that he had his phone so we could talk, but he was anxious to get started with basic. I was thrilled when we finally got the call.
  • Aster still gets excited every time a car pulls up (especially if it a car she recognizes) and runs to the door hoping she will see TM coming up the walk. It is sweet and sadly pathetic all at the same time.
  • I have now officially re-entered a fiction reading phase and went to the library and checked out a few books. One of those books I started reading a couple of days ago. I thought it sounded kind of familiar, but since I couldn't predict what was going to happen next, I figured it was just similar to something else. Last night, I had read enough that it started to trigger memories and suddenly I found I could predict what was going to happen. Bother. I've wasted two days on it and now don't want to finish it.
  • The goose is still sitting on her nest of eggs. I actually looked up incubation times for geese and if anything is going to happen, it looks as though 28 days is the minimum. If only I knew when she started to sit on her nest...
  • Finally, I never get tired of looking at the barn at twilight and night. J. took this picture and I love it. See the moon over the top?
