Let's just talk about a good part of the day

Since today was not better than yesterday in terms of R.'s functioning... and possibly worse... let's skip the sordid details and think about something positive instead.

We are nearly done with our schoolwork for the year. Everyone has finished their math books, we finished our chemistry book earlier this week, which just leaves our architecture unit study. Since it is all we are doing, we will probably complete it fairly quickly. Many of us are hanging on by a thread, so this is a good thing.

Today was a skyscraper art project. (We've been spending the week covering sky scrapers before moving on to individual architects.) I found a cool art lesson on Drawing Buildings in One Point Perspective and it seemed to go perfectly with our study. Here are the results.

I think they turned out really well. One of the keys to doing art projects is letting go of the idea that everyone is going to follow the instructions exactly. As you can see, some did, others made the project their own. Some people felt extremely frustrated by the whole thing and took a long time to decide to try to do something... and if what the person did was make a picture on one of the remaining scraps of paper left over from the frustration, well, I'll call it a win.

I'm hoping that tomorrow will be a better day. Already after dinner, R. has used more coherent language than she has in days. It is truly like a switch flipping back and forth and back and forth and back and forth...
