Almost afraid to continue with the week

It's been a week, and it's only Monday. Last night, as I mentioned, our washing machine started leaking from the bottom. J. hasn't had a chance to really investigate what is going on, but I am preparing myself for it to be bad news. The only bright spot is that I cannot actually do laundry for the moment. Too bad.

Today, as I was driving to Horse Power, the jeep started making a very concerning noise to the extent that it just didn't sound safe to drive any longer. I pulled into a gas station and waited for AAA. It is now at the repair place. We were afraid that transmission was going out, which sounded extremely expensive, but the guy at the shop thought is might be something less dire. I'm holding out for less dire because if we cannot afford a new washing machine, we certainly cannot afford either a major car repair or to replace a vehicle.

This afternoon we had a giant storm blow through with forecasts of up to 100 mph winds. I brought the horses in just as we were hearing the first thunder. I was proud of myself for timing it right so that I wasn't bringing in horses in the pouring rain, which is what usually happens. We could watch the storm rolling towards us and when the front edge hit it was like someone had flipped a switch and turned on a wind tunnel. It was that powerful and that immediate. We all jumped inside. G. then pointed out that we should completely shut the barn doors because of the high winds, something I hadn't really thought about when I was bringing in the horses. So, I got to running around in the pouring rain anyway.

We avoided much of the damage that seems to have surrounded us. We lost a few small branches, but those were off the silver maples and a light breeze will send one of those branches falling. Since we are supposed to continue to get gusts of wind throughout the night, I'm almost hesitant to write this, but we haven't lost power, either.

So with all that, I'm kind of wondering what tomorrow will hold. Well, maybe not wondering, it's more like holding one's breath waiting to see what will break next.
