How about another list?

Because I cannot think of anything else to write, I'll write a list of the things I spent time on today.

1. Did more online ordering. I suddenly had a craving for chicken mole (or any Mexican food, really), and  good friend of mine had shared with me what she uses. It's a sauce from Mexico that you can buy from Amazon. So I did. And since I was there, I decided that this would be a good time to finally buy the two items that had been in my cart for months. One of them was a manual grain mill. I've been meaning to buy one for ages, because it seemed like a good idea to have a way to grind all this wheat if the power went out. Perhaps it's my inner-prepper being let loose a bit. That doesn't explain the book for making the cutest little felt animals, though, does it?

2. Took care of the outside animals with G. I should have worn gloves. The weather looked beautiful with a lot of sun, but the wind was strong and biting and made the cold air feel even colder.

3. Worked with everyone to get them started on the first day of a two day art project.

I'll have the final results tomorrow; it's for history. Looking back, I wonder if I should have waited a day when the masses seemed to have a little bit more patience.

4. Cleaned up the kitchen. Again. I also sorted and started a(nother) load of laundry. Again. This happened while everyone was watching a documentary about underwater volcanoes. L. is now in desperate need of becoming an underwater explorer.

5. Ate some lunch. Turkey and Swiss on rye bread if you're curious. We (and by we what I really mean is J.) roasted the second turkey that was given to us a while back. We've been roasting them for lunch meat because they aren't quite big enough for a dinner. The rye bread D. made yesterday for the Reuben sandwiches we had last night. The rye bread turned out even better than last time.

6. Supervised while G. made a new focaccia recipe for dinner that a friend had shared. It looked pretty simple, but needed a very long rising time, so it needed to be started after lunch. It was indeed very easy. It was also very, very good. We will be making it again.

7. Spent time off and on all afternoon working with individual children on their various math and grammar lessons. Some children are getting very close to having all their schoolwork done for the school year, others... not so close at all. Those children will not be happy when everyone else is done, so I had to provide some structure and tell them exactly what they had to accomplish today. You will be happy to learn that everyone survived this ordeal.

8. Did some ironing. I realized that I still had tablecloths from Thanksgiving and Christmas in a pile in the corner of the studio. With the weather being so cold it seemed like the perfect day to start to take care of this. The pile is smaller, but still not finished. I'm planning on dedicating this week to finally conquering it. I also started to do some really sorting and straightening up in the studio. I was becoming aware that I didn't really want to work on any projects in it because the various piles I had stashed around were starting to feel onerous and was avoiding them. Several piles are now gone.

9. Had tea time. It is the extremely rare weekday that this doesn't happen. We are still reading Nils. I am still on the fence. Some chapters are odd. But now that we've dedicated this much time to it and since we're now halfway done, I think we need to stick with Nils and see if he and Goosey-Gander can return home after their adventures with the wild geese. Has anyone else ever read this?

10. Pulled the drain out of Java's hind-end. The vet said that if I felt up to it, after two weeks I could clip the stitches holding in the drain and pull it out. Since I actually have two sets of scissors and tweezers for removing stitches (given to me by the nurses who work for the plastic surgeon who did all of H.'s surgeries), I thought, why not? So this evening, after we brought in the horses and got them food, J. held Java while she ate and I poked and pulled as I worked to get the stitches cut. Let me tell you, it's a little more difficult on a horse than on a person... there's the whole matter of hair and paying attention to where her feet were moving. Eventually I did manage to find and cut the couple of stitches and was able to successfully pull out the six inch drain tube.  She looks to be healing extremely well.
