Well, we'll see how far I get. If I hit publish and things seem as though I left mid-sentence, I probably did.

  • J. is out of town for the weekend at a college improve group reunion. Whenever one of us leaves for a night or two, it is always dicey as to how R. is going to react. Currently, as I sit here typing, with everyone else tucked into bed, she is throwing toys down the hallway. We've already covered lying down while refusing to rest her head and screaming at me, so I'm just waiting to see what turn we take next. I really don't want to drive her to the ER, but I will because I now have a firm zero tolerance policy for all psychotic episodes.
  • H. went to her special needs youth group for the third time this evening. The first couple of times she was a bit confused as to what she was doing and why. This evening she came home absolutely raving about what a wonderful time she had and telling me about all the fun and crazy games she played. I am so stinking happy that she is able to have this experience.
  • You know how I told you my new grain mill motor arrived yesterday. Well, this morning, D. plugs it in to bake some bread, and... nothing. So we try a different outlet. Nothing. We try nearly every outlet. Nothing. We look underneath it to see if we forgot to flip a switch. There looked to be a little switch that needed to be depressed to work, but even when we pushed it... nothing. So I called the company. They are going to send out another new grain mill and a postage paid return address slip for me to send back the first new one. It's a pain not having a working grain mill, but I can't complain about the customer service.
  • My mom continues to recover, but for the past twenty-four hours she has been on the cardiac floor because they are concerned about her heart. They think it is just due to the stress of surgery, but continued prayers are appreciated.
  • I've now had to move R. into my room because she was banging bedroom doors open and shut. We are now to the very slow ootching across the floor heading towards the other people. It's as if she thinks if she moves slowly enough I won't notice she is moving.
  • G. was particularly disappointed that the grain mill didn't work because she is eager to learn how to make bread and take over from D. At this point, I don't think D. would mind passing the bread baking torch.
  • I finished the Inspector Gamache book in three days. I enjoy them so much, but it is always a disappointment to have to wait and wait for another one.
  • I'm now typing one handed because R. is now sitting on my lap, having scooched herself too far away from my bedroom. the good news is that she is starting to seem as though she is relaxing and is resting her head on my shoulder rather than battling me which is how things often progress. maybe I'll get to sleep after all.
  • Sometimes I think to myself that I should try doing NaNoWriMo, which is National Novel Writing Month and happens every November. The idea is that you spend the month writing a 50,000 word novel. And then I think to myself, "Are you nuts?" I don't have enough time to do everything I want and need to as it is. I'm pretty sure a 50,000 word novel would never happen. and can I just ask why November? Don't we have enough to do in November? Why not January, February, or March... those rather dreary months where it's too cold and snowy to ride?
  • And now, thanks to the sleep medicine her pediatrician prescribed to us, I have tucked her in. I think she is sleep enough to actually stay in bed and fall asleep, but I'm not putting on my pajamas quite yet. I also think I did something to my shoulder when I picked her up to put her on my lap. It is not feeling quite comfortable.
With that, I think I'll end. The house is still quiet, and I become more and more hopeful that I'll be sleeping tonight.
