Trivia night

I am continuing to enjoy the podcast, The Rest is History, very, very much. I have finished the first half of the French Revolution and have decided that I am just going to listen to whatever episode comes next because it all ends up being interesting. J. has started listening to it as well, but he has been pretty focused on Elizabethan history.

I thought I'd offer a little history trivia quiz here based on some of my current listening. Answers will be at the end.

1. The number of times Louis XVI had left Versailles in his entire life before being captured by the revolutionaries and taken to Paris.
   A. Too many to count, he was always heading to Paris.
   B. 1, and only to be crowned king.
   C. 6, when he toured other countries and met with foreign rulers.

2. When Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette decided to try to escape Paris and flee to safety, the first step in their plan was:
   A. Send money on ahead to help ease their escape.
   B. Collect old clothing so they could pass as peasants.
   C. Order the construction of a giant coach with luxury amenities and painted yellow and black in which to escape.

3. The object found in the site that was excavated where Piltdown Man was supposedly found that unbelievably didn't tip anyone off to the hoax.
   A. A smoking pipe carved out of bone.
   B. An airplane carved out of bone.
   C. A cricket bat carved out of bone.

4. Pasta in Italy...
   A. became a thing when Marco Polo brought back noodles from China.
   B. has been recorded as being served in many parts of Italy at least one hundred years before Marco Polo.
   C. was sold by marketing agents in the US as having been brought by Marco Polo to Italy so as to make it "less Italian" so Americans would be willing to eat it.

Answers:
1. B, the king had literally only left Versailles to be crowned king. He had no idea what his country was really like.

2. C, it took three months to construct and not surprisingly did not help them in their escape.

3. C, seriously.

4. A trick question, both B and C

Listen to the podcast. It is very good and very entertaining.
