In support of a good cause
When J. goes to work he takes whichever children have classes that day with him. They go to class, do homework, roam the school until their father is done for the day and then they all come home. It's a great system with no extra driving needed. It's a great system that is until J. needs to be at a meeting off campus two hours away all day. While there is a shuttle bus that goes between the end of the Metra line in our little town and the NIU campus in DeKalb, there is no additional transportation from NIU to the community college in a small town three miles further west from DeKalb. (For selfish reasons, I really think there should be a regular shuttle between NIU and the community college.)
This meant I found myself driving children too and from school today. It was a lot of driving especially since I added in a bunch of errands on each return trip... Getting gas, Costco, farm store, equine vet (to pick up prescriptions, and the library all told. The library was the last stop after a combined three hours of driving. I was very ready to be home and sit with a cup of tea.
My need to be done with things probably played into paying attention to the signs around the library. They announced that the Friends of the Library group was partnering with a local pizza place for a fund raiser. Order food, tell them it's for the library and 15% of your total would be donated to the library. I think the fact that it was to support one of my very favorites institutions pushed me over the edge.
We don't do takeout very often; maybe no more than five times a year, if that. It seems silly to spend an amount on one meal that equals 2/3 of my weekly groceries. But sometimes... Sometimes your tired, pizza sounds really good, and you like to support the library.
