Fiber Monday - Things I'm not working on
I'm afraid anything not essential to Christmas hace come to a pause around here. Why does the last ten percent seem to take up as much time as everything else put together? This is why this scarf is sitting on my studio table like this.
Obviously it's off the loom, but this is where it has stayed since. This is made out of Travel, which is pretty drapy. When I took it off the loom, it was very stiff and certainly not drapy in the least. My first thought was that I had sett the warp threads too closely and was just going to chalk it up to a learning experience. When I saw a weaving friend at church on Sunday I mentioned my error. She didn't think my sett sounded to close, and mentioned that Tencel can soften up in the wash. So that is what I plan to do next. Obviously before I wash it I need to deal with the ends. That was supposed to happen today, but it's hard to cut and twist ends if you spend the bulk of your day doing yet more endless errands.
The other thing I'm not working on is seeing muslins together from my pattern drafting class. I have three that are just pinned together so that we could check the fit in class, and now that they are correct I need to see them in order to keep them for reference. Here's a picture of the foundation patterns that we were working on. I have a torso foundation and two different princess seam foundations here.
In my studio closet I have pattern blocks and more foundation patterns. These are totally complete with the correct pattern on heavy paper with the pattern drafts and muslins in a bag on their hanger for reference.
And the geeky part of me really loves the hangers that hold the hard patterns.
I'll finish the others up after Christmas. Then in January we begin to create the trouser foundation. With that it will be possible to make pants that actually fit. Can you imagine? Then after that, the class changed into a garment design lab where we take all these pattern foundations and start making actual clothes with them. I'm very excited.
But first Christmas because I can't think about anything else at the moment.
