Fiber Monday - Fiber content
I don't really have anything to show you today. I'll start weaving the red towels tomorrow, I turned up the hems of the green towels so I can start hemming, and I need to put a third warp for a wool scarf on my rigid heddle loom. It's all holiday market making all the time here. It's also not terribly interesting blog content.
So you get a brief story instead. I stopped at Michael's today to pick up a couple of things I needed. The pins were easy. I also wanted some more wool yarn because of like to have quite a few wool scarves to sell. I looked and looked and finally found three (out of two aisles of yarn) that was 100% wool. I didn't think I'd have a huge selection, but I thought I'd have more options than white, brown, and grey. Everything else has acrylic in it. There was actually so much plastic yarn that I worried some small county's petroleum reserves must have been stolen by cheap yarn manufacturers. And it wasn't even that cheap. I don't even know why I was surprised because I am aware of the prevalence of non-natural fibers in big box stores.
My lesson is that I just can't run out to get any type of fiber related item anymore. I can plan ahead and drive a longer distance to stores that carry quality products or I can plan ahead and order what I need. I know everyone moans about losing Joann's, but really it was losing a place to easily buy sewing motions. It has been a very long time since either Joann's or Michael's has carried items worth buying. I mean how much fleece is really needed? I'm also going to pause here to say that along with my former grocery store that I still miss every day, I also miss living near Vogue Fabrics where I could get decent things.
