Weekly update - July 24, 26

This won't be a terribly eventful post as life has been pretty calm lately.
  • Last week when we were driving to church we came across a helicopter sitting on top of a truck looking as though it was being refueled. It was a very odd sight. 

Coming home we heard a helicopter and realized it was crop dusting instead of the small plane we're used to seeing. Suddenly it all made sense... both why we saw a helicopter in what felt to be a very random area and what they were doing with it. It wasn't refueling, but filling the tanks to spray the crops.
  • Basil likes to sit in sinks.

  • The other day as I was coming in from the barn I heard a weird scrambling sound behind the chicken coop. I was worried it was some sort of predator so went to check it out. No, not a predator, but a hen who had been hiding from the sun under an old towel that had been left out. When I disturbed her she poked her head out from under the towel. 

  • When it was so smoky here a week ago, P. shared this picture from the Chicago River.

  • Tonight we went to our little small town ice cream place for dessert. It is one of the treats of summer.
  • The start of school is quickly approaching which the loose-ended children are very relieved about. This afternoon we went and stocked up on notebooks and such for when they head back next month. 
  • I will be heading to New Hampshire next week to be one of the trainers for an Equine Assisted Learning certificate program through Athena. These are always interesting to lead, but also pretty intense and tiring. 
  • Just as I get back, D. will be heading off to New York to begin his PhD program. We're excited for him, but will also miss having him so close.
  • I'm not looking forward to the warmer weather returning next week. I would much rather have cold weather. 

And now that I am resorting to talking about the weather, I know it's time to wrap things up. I told you not much has been going on.

Sew, Mama, Sew! Giveaway

Sew, Mama, Sew! is hosting another giveaway day , the day where many bloggers giveaway things they have made or supplies to make things or both.  It is great fun to visit a lot of blogs and try to win cool stuff.  So fun that I thought I would participate this year. I had great hopes of making a set of coordinating mother/daughter aprons.  But reality reared its ugly head and I came to terms with the fact that my time is not limitless.Instead of aprons,  I must continue to spend quality time with yards and yards of red plaid flannel.  What am I making?  Well, as I tell my children, it is the season not to ask questions... I will be able to let you know sometime after the 25th. The mystery of the missing soap

You all know that I am an avid reader of mysteries, but sometimes we have our own real life mysteries here as well. Take the case of the missing soap. One of our bathrooms upstairs is the children's bathrooms, whose sink is lower than other sinks upstairs. Now, since it is the children's bathroom, it is not always pristine and things cannot always be found when they are needed. Are we the only house where things just randomly vanish, never to be seen again? This happens fairly frequently. Often the items are too big to have been taken by Borrowers , but every human in the house disavows any knowledge of the missing item. As far as they are concerned, they never even knew said item existed, so how could they have taken it? Often Mr. Nobody gets the blame and we move one, the item sometimes resurfacing at a later date and sometimes not.
