Weekly update - March 27, 2026
I think we've all settled back into our routine after I had been gone for a bit. I think I've even readjusted my sleep schedule.
- The end of the semester for those taking college classes is starting to loom, which means there was a lot of studying around the house today. L. gamified the process by creating on the computer a spinning wheel which listed everything that needed to be done and for how long as well as adding in some fun things. Thus, a totally randomized schedule was produced. I don't think at 16 I would have thought of that.
- I bought some strawberries at the store this week because they were on sale, and this morning I opened the refrigerator to discover chocolate covered strawberries that Y. had made. We had them for dessert tonight.
- We don't live in walking distance of anything, so it is extremely rare to have someone ring out doorbell. It actually kind of disturbed people because it happens so infrequently. Today it rang and everyone looked at me as if to say, "I'm not answering it." Of course it wasn't Publisher's Clearinghouse (is that even a thing anymore, or did I just completely date myself?), but proselytizers, who I politely sent along their way.
- I think Kenzie really has lost most of his hearing because he didn't bark at the doorbell at all. I don't miss the barking, but I also don't like the reason it has stopped.
- I did not throw away the envelope which contained a refund card for A. I didn't throw it away because I took it out of the recycling before it disappeared. And for the record, I do have a reputation for throwing out what I think is junk mail, but actually contains money. I clearly have not learned my lesson yet.
- Y. picked Sense and Sensibility as the next book that J. is reading to her. If you all think I use more words than are necessary, you need to go back and read Jane Austen. I'm positively Hemingway in comparison.
- We are all liking the longer hours of sunlight very much.
- G. is has started the tomato seeds and will get the rest of the seeds started this weekend.
- On Sunday the shearer comes to teach me to shear. I'm a little trepidatious about it. I'm sure pictures will be coming.
- On Wednesdays, because I have to be out so early to get to my class, K. has been cleaning the barn for me. I often receive pictures of K. and the horses.
- And finally, find a No Kings protest tomorrow and join it. Be on the right side of history. Stand up for compassion and truthfulness. We may not have many opportunities to do so left to us. Plus, it is a very good feeling to know that there are so many people who actually care for their fellow humans. Do not be silent. Silence is tacit approval. And do you know what else? Even if you voted for Felon47, it is more than okay to change your mind.
