Meet Luke

I am so excited to introduce you to our newest herd member.

This is Luke who arrived this afternoon. He didn't have to travel far, just across the street and down the road a bit. Having Luke move over here was mutually beneficial for all parties. We are so happy to be part of his next chapter.

Luke is a thoroughbred and a former race horse. He's also on the tall side, being a good six inches taller than Major. He's also super sweet.

The rest of the day was spent with Luke in the pasture that's next to the ponies and Emmy and Major hanging out in the other half of the pasture.

These two were interested but weren't terribly nutty.

And then it was dinner time and time to come in. Ponies got settled first, then Luke got moved to his stall with the bottom Dutch door closed while everyone acclimates, then the other two were brought in.

Well, it seems Emmy is in love. For an hour she did her best mare-in-love behavior while ignoring all food.

You can see that Luke was staying fairly far away. When Emmy wasn't hanging her head over the stall, she was either trying to open the stall door or keeping Major away from her new boyfriend. We are well aware of Emmy's door opening capabilities, so had already secured it. She tried the handle outside, she tried reaching over and opening the handle on the inside, and we finally had to close the top half before Emmy completely destroyed the handle such was her need to open the door.

In the meantime, poor Major was hanging around like this.

He was kind of interested to meet his new friend, but Emmy of the flashing hooves was not interested in sharing.

Things will eventually settle down, but the first 24 hours is always a bit drama filled.
