Not the news we wanted
When the vet called this morning I really hoped it was to make arrangements for us to bring Everett home. Sadly, it was not. He passed away a couple of hours after surgery yesterday. Due to the increase in blood in his urine, they suspected that there was a small ruptured in his bladder that the ultrasound didn't pick up. There was no way to fix it. I do know he had plenty of meds so he was not in pain.
We are all sorry to lose the little guy. It's the worst part of caring for animals.
There are a couple of things that are a tiny silver lining. The first is that I was able to quiz the vet pretty thoroughly and now have a better grasp on sheep management so that we can hopefully avoid this in the future. The second is that I am now on this vet's list when they make their twice a year journey up to our neck of the woods. I'll be able to have a vet come and give the sheep a once over as well as their yearly inoculations. This had started to weigh on my mind a bit. Vets who see sheep are few and far away in the far western suburbs, so finding one feels like a win.
We will miss little Everett. It feels as though it has been a tough year for animals here. Heck, 2025 has been a tough year in general. I don't like the. Zero stars.

Is it wrong of me to be torn about the situation in your country having an effect on the situation in my country? Back in January, Canada's Conservative party was 25 points up on our Liberal party (the party in power) and we knew we would have an election by October but probably earlier. Then Donald Trump started to make noise about wanting us to be the 51st state and tariffs and all the other nonsense started. Our prime minister stepped down and the race was on for a new leader of the Liberal party. Mark Carney appeared on The Daily Show and Jon Stewart basically got the scoop that he would be in the leadership race. Not very exciting as a levelheaded economist but the segment showed he had a sense of humour and reminded us that he was the reason we didn't suffer quite as much as the US did in 2008 during the recession. Well, I worked the election on Monday and while in my riding the Conservative candidate was elected, nationwide we have another Liberal minority government. Almost a miracle if you will. I am so thankful. Without Trump, I'm sure the results would be very different. So, as you can see, I'm torn. I don't want Trump for you but without him....
