Weekly update - March 13, 2025
This will probably be a bit brief because there really hasn't been anything unusual or noteworthy going on here. I'm not complaining, mind you; I strive for boring. It does make finding blog topics a wee bit more challenging, though.
- The weather has been gorgeous. Today I sat in the sun and did nothing for an hour, just enjoying feeling warm while outside. I had brought a stack of magazines out to read, but really I just wanted to sit.
- Earlier this week, I headed out to the horses to give them breakfast. As I was walking by the sheep pen, I realized that Everett had a bucket around his neck. Somehow, he had gotten his head through the handle of the bucket and was wearing it like a necklace. Then I noticed G. trying to lure him over with food. Now little Everett is the most skittish of the three and knew something was up. He was not going anywhere near that food. I when and gave Buddy his medicine and then went to help G. We ended up putting all the sheep in the trailer and closing the door. Then I tackled Everett and pinned him down while G. worked the bucket off his head. Everyone recovered from the traumatic event.
- I finished a book yesterday that was intriguing and made me sit down in the afternoon to finish it. It was definitely a cut above many of the books I've read recently. It's called The Bookseller by Cynthia Swanson and it was a nice twist on the dual timeline thing that is so prevalent in modern fiction.
- L. made steak fajitas tonight and they were really good. Pretty much every meal that assigned chefs have cooked has been good. We are very much sticking with the plan of G., L., Y., and K. cooking once a week. They are going to have some mad cooking skills by the end of the year. (Actually, they all already have some mad cooking skills. I rarely need to help.)
- I collected over a dozen eggs in the past 24 hours which means we are now officially back up to full egg production. This means that instead of telling people they cannot cook eggs because I only have a couple to get through the week, today I was telling people they needed to eat more eggs and hard-boiled a dozen for snacks and meals. It's definitely feast or famine.
- I feel spring cleaning fever kicking in. Today I completely cleaned and rearranged one of the kitchen counters that tends to collect stuff.
- We realized that it was still light outside as we were eating dinner tonight. It was a lovely discovery.
- And that's pretty much our week... school stuff, laundry, cooking, animals, reading, and doing dishes. It could be worse.
- And because everyone can probably use some amusement right about now. Enjoy this John Cleese sketch.
