Weekly update - June 15, 2024

Everyone has arrived safely home from Guatemala! It sounds as though it was a truly phenomenal trip.
  • Here is a picture that one of the adults sent me of G., L , and K. in Antigua. Y. had decided to go back to the hotel to rest. 

  • Today is B.'s, G.'s, and L.'s birthdays, but we will celebrate tomorrow.
  • Today TM stopped by so we could meet his new puppy! I love other people's puppies. This is Bandit and he is five months old. He is going to be a very big husky.
Bandit was particularly interested in the ponies and Buddy has never met another creature he doesn't like.

It was not overly successful.
  • When I was at the thrift store the other day getting children appropriate clothes for the trip, I paused to look for a coffee grinder because I was tired of crushing Vienna's seven pills twice a day. I didn't find a coffee grinder, but I did find a mug warmer!

I am so excited. I had one years ago and used it constantly. And then it broke and I was stuck microwaving my tea over and over. I've already tried it out and it works well.
  • I did get a coffee grinder from a local giveaway group.
  • Java has decided that she is in love with Buddy. L. O. V. E. I've tried to tell her that it won't work for any number of reasons, but they still spend quite a bit of time like this. 
  • We (and by we I mean J.) got all those plants in the ground today. I think they look wonderful, but I forgot to take a picture. Now to keep them watered enough so they can survive the next week of high temperatures.
  • Finally, I have new summer horse classes scheduled on my website (Thank you, MC!) If you know anyone who might be interested, send them my way. Bittersweet Farm

Making bias tape... otherwise known as the Sew, Mama, Sew! Giveaway

It's Sew, Mama, Sew Giveaway time again.  I love bias tape.  It is so useful and so easy to use... finishing edges ... finishing seams ...  And while the pre-packaged stuff has it's place and I use it often, I really like to have patterned bias tape as well.  Enter one of my favorite little tools: the bias tape maker.  This one make 3/4 inch bias tape and I will be giving one away at the end of this post.  But first, I thought some of you might like to see what it does if you've never used one before. I don't have a rotary cutter, nice cutting mats, or even a proper cutting table (I cut-out things on my floor), so if I can do this, so can you.  Here is my admittedly quirky method. Apple picking in the rain

Today was our planned day to go and pick apples.  It was raining off and on, but when it comes to fruit, we don't let a little water get in our way so off we went.  We met our friends and enjoyed their company and picked a lot of apples (3 1/2 bushels).  We also ate quite a few. G.  L. K.  (with an apple nearly as big as his head) P8, TM and L. Now, I don't know about you, but even picking 7 bags of apples does not take us very long.  It's a shame to drive so far only to turn around and go home, so we packed lunches, headed to a park, and enjoyed the now sunny weather. TM and P8 A good day all around.  Of course now I have to do something with all these apples...

Kenzie on the beach

We have made it back home. I am feeling a little more balanced, but it was hard saying goodbye to a house we've created such meaningful memories in for the past 34 years.
