How can Christmas be just over a week away?!?!? More than anything, that sums up my week.
- When we drove into the city on Wednesday, all the electric sign boards above the expressways flashed this notice, "Don we now our fastened seat belts, fa la la la la la la la la". Someone at IDOT is feeling festive... and has a sense of humor.
- Thursday was a very bad day.
- L. has become a reading machine. She will read for an hour or so, and then come and find me to tell me how many chapters she has read. L. also has three chapter books going at once. She is becoming a true reader. Other people have been doing quite a bit of reading as well during our school break.
- I'm incredibly frustrated at not being able to share what I have been working on.
- Tomorrow we will be decorating gingerbread houses. It will be nice to leave my studio and spend time with my children.
- J. is reading the last Anne of Green Gables books to the girls at night. Y. is particularly smitten with Anne. I believe she will be quite bereft when the books come to an end. I know I always was.
- B. spent much of the past week at Disney World with friends, and had a great time.
- P.'s passport and visa application are at the Russian embassy, and we are keeping our fingers crossed that it will be returned with a visa. P. has taken care of all of this... getting the correct forms, invitation letters, dealing with the courier. I hand out my charge card so she can charge things. (And then pays me back.) She has been incredibly responsible.
- It is just about one month until P. flies to Barbados to join the ship.
- The barn pieces are supposed to arrive on Monday. How many more times can I write that without it coming true? The optimistic part of me things this will be the last time. The larger, more pessimistic side of me things I'll be writing it at least a few more times.
- I threaded my serger for the first time in over a year... on the first try! That, my friends, is a true Christmas miracle.
- I just got a notice today that our three year post-placement reports for R. and Y. are due next month. It seems crazy... both too long and too short... that they have been home that long.
- Last Friday, I got to see a good friend who drove out, and then we went to pick-up our bulk orders together. Giant bags of wheat berries give me such a warm, happy feeling inside, and not just because we can bake bread. It's because they represent so many hours spent with good friends going to get them.
- Last Saturday, I got to spend the morning with my sister-in-law as we did a local Christmas house walk together. It's always nice to spend time with her, and even better to get to walk around and spy out other people's houses. One house had an indoor wood burning pizza oven in the basement, which could cook eight pizzas at once. I really think I need that.
- Anyone make their own tinctures, decoctions, and teas with wildcrafted plants? It is kind of becoming my newest interest.
- And now I need to go, as I think we are going to sit down with the older people and have our annual viewing of White Christmas.
