Sew, Mama, Sew! Giveaway

Sew, Mama, Sew! is hosting another giveaway day, the day where many bloggers giveaway things they have made or supplies to make things or both.  It is great fun to visit a lot of blogs and try to win cool stuff.  So fun that I thought I would participate this year.

I had great hopes of making a set of coordinating mother/daughter aprons.  But reality reared its ugly head and I came to terms with the fact that my time is not limitless.Instead of aprons,  I must continue to spend quality time with yards and yards of red plaid flannel.  What am I making?  Well, as I tell my children, it is the season not to ask questions... I will be able to let you know sometime after the 25th.

Instead of making something, I went to my favorite thrift store and found some supplies in the form of sheets and pillowcases (some of my favorite raw material).  I'm giving away three pillowcases and one twin flat sheet.

I decided to go with bright, springy colors, because if you are anything like myself, it will be spring before you decide what to do with them and then actually do it.  The sheet could be turned into a summer skirt or yards of bias tape.  It's matching pillowcase could be a sweet little girl's dress.

I love the embroidery on this pillowcase.  The bottom of a dress?  Or use it to make pockets on something?

This pillowcase has loads of possibility.  I love the bright colors, especially with all the grey and white that are outside my window right now.

Cute embroidery you could use on something and three bright yellow buttons.

Here's the back:

So what do you need to do to have a chance to win all of this?  It's simple.  Leave a comment saying what think you might use some of this for.  Be sure to include your email address so I have a way to contact you if you win.  One entry per person.  I'll ship to the US and Canada.  Comments will be open through Friday, the 17th, at which point I will randomly draw the winner.

Thanks for stopping by!

Love the vintage yellow sheets. I would probably use them for a quilt.

I love the yellow! I'd definitely use the sheet to make a retro apron, or maybe a summer dress if I was feeling really bold! The purple pillowcase would make a great dress for a cute little girl.

Seeing your beautiful pillowcases instantly gave me an idea for a little girls dress. We recently saw an NBC clip on the nightly news on dresses for little girls in Africa, www.littledressesforafrica.org
So would love to make a dress or two for these deserving girls.

Those are some wonderful fabrics. I adore pillowcase dresses in the summer. Easy to make, easy to wear (she can put them on and off all on her own) and so cool in the South!

Thank you for the opportunity to win!

I love vintage fins and thrift store deals. I go there quite regularly especially when my local Salv Army Store has their half of Wednesdays.

I love all of your ideas. I think I would do some of them. I love the bias tape idea and especially since I am always lacking in yellow. The others I think I would make skirts for my girls.

Lovely ideas.

Squee! I need that sheet for my baby girl's quilt. Okay, not really, but it would be just right. I have another vintage yellow one that it would go with so well. So yeah, that's what I would do with it. And some pillowcase aprons might be in order. :)

I would embroider one with a grandchilds name, use the pillowcase to send to the pillowcase challange as a dress, and the sheet I think would make either a nice table runner with napkins or a table cloth. pamspinks.blogspot.com

I just started sewing, and have found some simple dress patterns for my adorable 14 month old girl. These sheets would be great for spring dresses! I think maybe I might be daring enough to try making one for myself to match, too!

Love the sheet! I have on my goal list for my 31st year to make a skirt. I agree that it would make a great summer skirt. I might just have to turn the pillow case into a pillow case dress for my niece (something else I've never tried yet). I'd just be happy adding to my barely existent stash pile as I've only been quilting/sewing for about 6 months. Merry Christmas!!
I do loads of things with sheets. This one looks beautiful. I'm not sure I've come across a yellow this pretty before. I need to make some new cloth grocery bags as well as other reusables...and I really do prefer to upcycle instead of buying new fabric.

I love the embroidery too and think I would refashion it into a sham. The yellow would definitely be good fabric for a skirt - very springy.

Love love the yellow sheet. I'd make lounge pants out of it for sure - so bright and happy in the middle of winter. Loved your article above about Mary as well - people used to grow up earlier, didn't they?

I've been collecting yellow retro fabrics for a quilt, and that sheet would make a nifty backing! The pillowcase with the embroidery looks like a skirt for my 5-year-old.

That's really nice! The perfect sister-in-law is pregnant, so, I'd wait to see if it's a girl first! If so, something precious for the baby. If not, a sundress (with pillowcase pockets - you're brilliant) for me!

Love the pillowcases and sheets. I usually make my daughter dresses or pants out of pillowcases. It would be fun to see what else I could come up with. Perhaps an apron?

Oh wow! I think I need to take a drive to whichever thrift shops you visit. I have never found anything near as awesome as those you found with the embroideries. And that color is gorgeous too. Geez, Rockford has nothing like that. Hmmmm wonder if hubby wants to take a drive. LOL

I know the blue or is it purple maybe (computers skew colors a bit) would totally have to be a litle dress for our granddaughter. Or possible some type of matching outfit for her and her American Girl doll even. The awesome sheet would be a great back to a quilt even I'd think.
