A whistle in honor of a friend

Yesterday I went to the memorial service for a very good friend. This was a woman who would bring by cookies, take children out to lunch, bought clothes for various children, and taught them in our church's midweek program. She was funny and smart and opinionated and cared about people very much. I actually wrote about her quite a bit here on the blog, but because I don't usual give people's names, I can't find a single past post to link to. We will miss her. I was pleased that five of my adult children were able to join me for her memorial service.

This next part is going to seem like a nonsequiter, but it actually isn't. My friend was one of those people who made friends with everyone she came across, regardless of their ethnicity, religion, gender, etc. She saw all people to be of value and to be a potential friend. She hated what was happening in our country and was not shy about saying so. At 96, she had ceased to care what others thought about her so was unfiltered in her opinions.

This is why I think she would be pleased that we all picked up these, which her church was giving away to whomever wanted one.

I had been wanting to get one, so this was perfect. If you aren't sure what this is, here is the explanation.

My friend took care of her neighbors. It was who she was as a follower of Jesus. Anything that helped protect others would be okay in her book. So we all honored our friend by becoming more prepared to our own neighbors.
