Happy Birthday, B., L., and G., or a day in pictures

Actually, their birthdays are tomorrow. B. turns 25, while G. and L. turn 11. It was easier to get everyone here to celebrate today. We took full advantage of the fantastic weather.

First, J. and B. finished repairing the culvert so that in the next big rain all the gravel wouldn't wash from the drive into the creek. Looks pretty good, huh? There is wire mesh under the gravel which is screwed to wood underneath the logs and staked down under the road. The idea is the railway tie and logs will stop the gravel from going over while the wire mesh will stop it from washing out underneath. I think the rock makes a nice addition (J. and B. rolled it from the front yard where it didn't make any sense), plus it holds the logs in place.

The other part of the process was to gather the gravel that did wash down the creek in the last storm and bring it back up to cover the wire mesh. Here is K. with the wheelbarrow in the creek trying to push it back up the bank.

The mower turned out to be a better option. Yes, that's K. driving it. TM was also helping and doing the photo documenting.

The other day while we were moving lots of things around to clean off the back porch, we unearthed our badminton net. We had net and rackets, but no birdies. A. and B. went off and located not only birdies but also a volleyball. Volleyball for our family seems to be a developing skill.

We also finished getting the back porch sorted out so that we can finally eat outside all together. J. found some folding benches at the store which were the key to seating everyone. I cannot tell you how happy this makes me. It only took us three years to manage.

Of course there were birthday preparations as well. G. and I made two pies; one blueberry and one strawberry. These had whipped cream added right before we ate them.

And then there was dinner and gifts.

J. is holding candles saying 47 because that is the sum of 11, 11, and 25.

And to top off the evening... a bonfire.
