Midweek bullets
I'm doing the weekly stream of consciousness post today since starting tomorrow begins the days leading up to Easter.
- I have things basically planned for Easter, but I'm so unsure what day it is, I realized that I never planned for doing a Seder. We have done Seder dinners in the past, but I haven't managed to pull one together since we moved. This was going to be my year to get that tradition started again. Until the month of March lasted forever and I lost track of time, that is. Next year. I'll pull it together next year.
- I have new little sprouts starting to come up where I planted the first garden bed. It looks as though some lettuce and radishes are the first ones growing. I always find it so heartening when those first little seeds sprout. I can never quite believe that something will happen when I initially plant them.
- Java and Bristol seem to be on the mend. Java is not bothered in the least by having fifty stitches and a drain on her hind end. She doesn't even seem to care when I irrigate the drain. Bristol has not run a fever in a couple of days now, but we are still keeping an eye on her because we are not entirely sure what was going on.
- Can I just say having my two riding horses out of commission during absolutely beautiful weather stinks?
- Tonight I made stuffed spinach pizza. I used the semolina flour to make the crust this time as an experiment. The flour is so fine it is a little odd to work with. I almost felt as though I was trying to knead kinetic sand. But it made a great pizza crust. Here are the results.
- I shared this on my Facebook page, but thought you might like to see it here, too. We grilled hamburgers yesterday because of the gorgeous weather. Due to various things, I have stopped buying bread goods at the store and have been making them instead. (I used to do this all the time, but had gotten lazy.) Here are yesterday's hamburger buns.
- I found something I really want to make. It is a crocheted spring garland, and it is lovely. The trouble is, ever since the quarantine started, I haven't been able to make a single thing. Maybe next spring. How many times am I going to end up saying that?
- The ducks are laying very prolifically. (Buy duck eggs from me! Please!) But I have discovered an unexpected benefit of having geese, too. Last year, the ducks laid their eggs where ever... often it seemed as though they sought out the most disgusting part of the coop or pen. We learned that duck eggs, before they are washed are disgusting. (But I can wash them for you, and then they won't look disgusting any longer!) The geese, it seems, appreciate a good nest which they make out of the straw in the coop. After they lay their eggs, the geese very carefully cover them with straw. This keep their eggs significantly cleaner. Well, the ducks have started to lay their eggs in the goose nests. I am so happy to collect clean-ish duck eggs!
- R. helped me to clean out nearly the entire garden which runs the length of the house today. We just have a small bit left. I planted a lot more tulips last year in this garden, and I'm so happy to see these coming up. (I had actually forgotten I had planted tulips, so this was a pleasant surprise.) I do love spring!
- We are not doing school this week because I always take Holy Week off. This works out well because with the warm weather, I probably would have taken it off anyway. It's nice to have it all fit in the plan.
- We did not get golf ball sized hail last night, though areas all around us did.
- I was putting some cash in my wallet yesterday from having sold some eggs, when I thought, "How cute. It's like I think I'm going somewhere and might need cash." Am I the only one to have these thoughts?
- I had to mail some letters and deposit some checks today. It's been days and days since I've driven. I always have a brief moment of wondering whether I remember how to drive.
- Life is currently weird.
And with that thought I will leave you for the evening. Good night!
