Happy 2020!
Well if the whole year goes as well as the first day did, it should be a very good year, indeed. J. and I drove up to my favorite yarn store to take advantage of a really good New Year's Day sale. Well, I took advantage of it, J. sat in one of the chairs with the other husbands who were waiting and read one of the new spinning books I picked up. I also got two pounds of merino wool for an outrageously low price. Look how pretty it is!
This will make quite a bit of yarn and will take me quite a while to spin. I also got a new mindless project of some self-striping sock wool to knit a pair of socks. Mindless projects are for when I need something to keep my hands busy but am not in a place to have to count or pay attention to a complicated pattern. It was fun shopping. It was also a lovely drive on a sunny day, and J. and I got some uninterrupted time together.
Younger people read books or played games or watched G.'s Christmas gift which was a DVD baking course from the Great Courses company. She has now watched the entire thing and is ready to start it over again. I'm hoping for some chocolate mousse in my future. I made some granola for breakfasts for the next few days, as well as getting some time to do some research for a co-op class I'm teaching starting next week. Add in a quick visit with a friend who dropped by, and it was a pretty terrific day.
The only down side to the day was having to take J.'s car in because the brakes were sounding as though they were not long for this world. Brakes are not something you turn up the music and ignore, so in it went. I'm going to assume that this is not a signal of an impending horrible car year, even if all of our vehicles are older than half our children.
Happy 2020 to all of you, my readers. May it be filled with joy and thankfulness.
