The adopted family pursued some (somewhat controversial) medical treatment and was met with some pretty heavy criticism for their decision. The only people who have any reason to ask w...Yes! The only people who have any reason to ask why not a US adoption is someone who has made that choice and wants to learn more about my choice. As a single who did explore the US system first, the only children that I was eligible to adopt were over 10 years old. !! As a first time adopter and a single working mother with a 6yo who would be displaced in birth order, nothing about that sounded like the right thing for our family. So when a year or more later I learned that singles were allowed to adopt babies and toddlers from China, I made that choice.
