Mission Impossible

[Cue music] Duh, Duh, Duh-duh, Duh, Duh, Duh-duh...

Your mission, should you choose to accept it includes,

1. Declutter, clean, and stage a very large house with 12 occupants and 3 pets in approximately two months.
2. Teach five young children to read while doing #1.
3. Begin to develop new household habits in those 12 occupants so that the old habits of leaving personal items strewn about the house are changed to more organized behaviors.
4. Once pristine, keep the very large house with 12 occupants and 3 pets pristine.
5. Do this without sending the 10 year old human tornado to another residence.
6. Also do this while continuing to teach young children to read.
7. Do not lose your mind or your patience along the way.

This message will self-destruct in 10 seconds.... leaving behind a pile of ash which will then need to be cleaned up.

[Cue music] Duh, Duh, Duh-duh, Duh, Duh, Duh-duh....


(Yes, I know we can only do what can do. But we would really like the house, once on the market to sell more quickly rather than more slowly. And when discussing it with realtors, hearing the words, 'unique' and 'very large' and 'unusual' are not overly heart-warming, because I know enough to know that they are code words for plan it on taking a while to sell. Clean and pristine, along with well-priced, can help a lot.)

I had to laugh at this post since we call our 15 month old a "little tornado" as she leaves behind a wake of destruction and chaos wherever she goes. I can just about imagine that it would be that much worse with a 10 year old 2 year old. Then the limitations of height and physical strength/capability would be significantly less.

Your house is unique, but what a gem! It is a dream house as far as I am concerned and the location is so convenient...I hope it sells far faster than you imagine.

It's Sew, Mama, Sew Giveaway time again.  I love bias tape.  It is so useful and so easy to use... finishing edges ... finishing seams ...  And while the pre-packaged stuff has it's place and I use it often, I really like to have patterned bias tape as well.  Enter one of my favorite little tools: the bias tape maker.  This one make 3/4 inch bias tape and I will be giving one away at the end of this post.  But first, I thought some of you might like to see what it does if you've never used one before. I don't have a rotary cutter, nice cutting mats, or even a proper cutting table (I cut-out things on my floor), so if I can do this, so can you.  Here is my admittedly quirky method. Apple picking in the rain

Today was our planned day to go and pick apples.  It was raining off and on, but when it comes to fruit, we don't let a little water get in our way so off we went.  We met our friends and enjoyed their company and picked a lot of apples (3 1/2 bushels).  We also ate quite a few. G.  L. K.  (with an apple nearly as big as his head) P8, TM and L. Now, I don't know about you, but even picking 7 bags of apples does not take us very long.  It's a shame to drive so far only to turn around and go home, so we packed lunches, headed to a park, and enjoyed the now sunny weather. TM and P8 A good day all around.  Of course now I have to do something with all these apples...

Kenzie on the beach

We have made it back home. I am feeling a little more balanced, but it was hard saying goodbye to a house we've created such meaningful memories in for the past 34 years.
