It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Yes, I found the battery charger...or rather A. did at the bottom of the diaper bag. So instead of depressing posts about toxic chemicals, I can show you pictures of decorating for Christmas at Chez Curry.


Christmas stockings for each of us, compliments of my mother who made all of them. They are displayed on the couch for the picture, since to hang them we must double them up, having only 7 stocking holders. (I thought that was so many when I bought them 5 children ago.)

And one last bit of baby news...G. and L. had their 6 month check-up today and are doing nicely. They are nearly exactly the same size; 1 ounce difference in weight and 1/8 inch difference in length. And they are little tiny peanuts...healthy and happy...but peanuts all the same.

The couch is a hand me down and because the stockings are so artfully displayed you don't see the huge, pinkish stain on the back where K. threw up last year after eaten too many red candies while we were decorating Christmas cookies. It definitely looks better in a picture than in real life, where it has an overall grayish, dingy tinge.

Oh Eliz. Thanks for making life real! You make me smile! I suppose you normally have a blanket hanging over the back to cover the stain?

What about the smell??? LOL!

We are currently in the market for a new couch. I am thinking brown leather this time because I've heard throw-up, pee, and pop doesn't phase leather. (notice I said "pop" not "poop" because I think I'm past the poop on the couch phase--but definitely entering the pop phase with lots of teens.

Now if I can just find someone who wants to give/sell me a beautiful brown leather couch for cheap/free!

It's Sew, Mama, Sew Giveaway time again.  I love bias tape.  It is so useful and so easy to use... finishing edges ... finishing seams ...  And while the pre-packaged stuff has it's place and I use it often, I really like to have patterned bias tape as well.  Enter one of my favorite little tools: the bias tape maker.  This one make 3/4 inch bias tape and I will be giving one away at the end of this post.  But first, I thought some of you might like to see what it does if you've never used one before. I don't have a rotary cutter, nice cutting mats, or even a proper cutting table (I cut-out things on my floor), so if I can do this, so can you.  Here is my admittedly quirky method. Apple picking in the rain

Today was our planned day to go and pick apples.  It was raining off and on, but when it comes to fruit, we don't let a little water get in our way so off we went.  We met our friends and enjoyed their company and picked a lot of apples (3 1/2 bushels).  We also ate quite a few. G.  L. K.  (with an apple nearly as big as his head) P8, TM and L. Now, I don't know about you, but even picking 7 bags of apples does not take us very long.  It's a shame to drive so far only to turn around and go home, so we packed lunches, headed to a park, and enjoyed the now sunny weather. TM and P8 A good day all around.  Of course now I have to do something with all these apples...

Kenzie on the beach

We have made it back home. I am feeling a little more balanced, but it was hard saying goodbye to a house we've created such meaningful memories in for the past 34 years.
